Here’s a sneak peek at my new collection of astrological signs! After experimenting with a few different techniques, I decided to go with this simple, yet detailed line drawing for each sign. It is drawn entirely with Sharpies, then scanned in and a background color is added. What do you think of this new style direction?

Here is a look at my process creating the leprechaun owl image posted in Part 1:

First I draw a loose sketch of the owl on the log. Then I blow it up and redraw it. I know that I want his wings to flap, and that he needs a leprechaun hat, a pot of gold and a rainbow. I draw these things separately so that I can size them in Photoshop to make the best composition. I scan in my drawings and start composing…

As I’m working on the composition, I decide that he needs to be holding a four leaf clover in his mouth and that his wing flapping is creating a storm of four leaf clovers. I draw more clovers.

Now that I’ve added all the clovers, I begin to fine tune things, adding paint textures and adding details, like the feathers on his belly.

I decide that the owl looks better in gray than green and finish up the drawing. Here is the result:
